The club at the bottom of the Gansevoort (called One) - lots of hip hop
The rooftop of the Maritime hotel http://www.themaritimehotel.com/
The bar at the bottom of the Maritime hotel (called Hiro) - great atmosphere
Buddha Bar (either go for dinner though or go early as it can be hard to get in on the weekend)
Tenjune (popular night club on little west 12th between 9th and 10th
Lots of other clubs and bars in the area to just stumble upon (PM, Cilio, Vento, etc...)
Café Habana (Nolita) – This is a Cuban spot, very hipster, casual, small and kind of gritty. Excellent Cuban food. Fine for brunch, too…Actually if you head to Soho for shopping this is very close by.

Where to go in NYC #2

Hotel Griffou, located on a residential street between 5th and 6th. You step down and into crowded lively bar and there are three different dining rooms ,. Very trendy. Soft light, candles, great colors and interesting menu. Good food.

La Esquina is a greasy spoon in SOHO. But if you get reservations, ask to be sat downstairs. The hostess is actually located in the doorway to the kitchen and once downstairs, it opens up into a trendy Mexican place. Good menu (NY version of Mexican) and fun young crowd. Hot spot.

Both places will probably need a reservation and funny enough, I have celebrated two of my birthdays there – both are cool.

After dinner cocktails/lounges. Pegu is one of my favorite places for good cocktails and has a scene. And I thought I would add a few New York style speakeasies: Cabin Down Below and Death & Co. There are probably a half a dozen places like this and you usually need good directions (enter through the toy store or pizza place (see the Cabin)) or a reservations.
